Pronucleus

A Nucleus containing half of the DNA required in normal cells of our body.
Normal body cells have 2 copies of each gene, but in reproductive tissues (sperm and eggs) they have only 1 copy of each gene (and so half the total genome required – termed haploid). This is so that during fertilization the two pronuclei fuse to form a full nucleus, with one copy of a gene from each parent.
